Discovering The Truth About Teams

Introduction to the Sport of Rugby

Rugby, at present, is one of the most exciting contact sports. The game is rather a combination of football with its hard-hitting physical nature, and soccer, with its speed and movement.

When you look at the size and shape of a rugby ball, you will almost think that it is a football. Rugby balls are slightly larger than a football. Laces no longer come with the modern version of the rugby ball. Rugby players’ personal equipment includes a mouthpiece which is mandatory, and a soft-padded head gear which is optional.

The ‘pitch’ is the playing field of the rugby game. The measurement of this large grassy surface is 100 meters long and 70 meters wide. On every end of the rugby field are uprights. The goal area is behind the uprights. This goal area much be 10 meters deep at its minimum and its depth is often 22 meters.

Two teams are represented in the pitch who will play the game. Each team consist of fifteen players. Each team is divided into two separate groupings called the pack and the backs. The pack players have jerseys with numbers from one to eight. Pack players are made up of the larger, more physical players. The backs have jersey numbers from nine to fifteen, and made up of the fastest players.

The objective of the game is to score goals which are known as “try.” To score a try, a player need to bring the ball down inside your opponent’s end zone and touch the ball down. Any one of the players can carry the ball to this zone and make a score. When a player makes a try, it is equivalent to 5 points. When a player makes a try, he is then awarded a conversion kick. Two points are added to the team score if the conversion kick is good.

You can also score points through a drop goal. A drop goal is equivalent to 3 points. This happens when a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the opposing team. To make a drop goal the ball should make contact with the ground first before you kick it.

If a player fouls another, then they are given a penalty kick. Penalty kicks are worth 3 points. The player kicks the ball freely on the site where the foul was committed and behind the 22 meter line.

Rugby these days is already being played at different professional levels. Cities have their own rugby teams, similar to pro football teams in different states. International levels of rugby games are already becoming the most popular of all. International teams are made up of the best players in the city teams in different countries.
